MPCore.us – US President Donald Trump said Saturday he had not been briefed by the CIA intelligence agency about a report that concluded that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had ordered the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, but added that he would get an explanation later.

“We will talk to the CIA later, and many other parties. I will do it while on the plane, “Trump told reporters at the White House before flying to California. “I will also talk by telephone with Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo,” Trump added.

The CIA’s conclusion, which was first reported by the Washington Post newspaper on Friday (16/11), contradicted Saudi Arabia where the day before the country’s high prosecutor stated the crown prince was not involved in the murder.

US officials said the CIA concluded that 15 Saudi Arabian agents had flown by government Saudi Arabia to Istanbul and killed Khashoggi at their consulate office.

Khashoggi, a columnist for the Washington Post newspaper who often criticizes Crown Prince Mohammad Salman, was killed at the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul on October 2 when he came to the place to get documents ahead of his marriage to a Turkish woman.

The Washington Post newspaper said the CIA based its conclusions on various intelligence sources, including the telephone of the brother of Prince Mohammad Salman who was also Saudi Arabian Ambassador to America Khalid bin Salman and Khashoggi.

During the telephone conversation Khalid told Khashoggi that it would be safer for him to retrieve the documents needed for his marriage at the Saudi consulate office in Istanbul. The newspaper said he did not know whether Khalid knew that Khashoggi would be killed there.

Through Twitter, Khalid denied having spoken to Khashoggi. “As I told the Washington Post, my last contact with Khashoggi was via text message on October 26, 2017. I have never talked to him by telephone or of course never advised him to come to Turkey for any reason. I ask the American government to release any information regarding this claim, “said Khalid.

Furthermore Khalid Salman regretted the Washington Post for not containing a complete response to the serious allegations.

Saudi officials said Khashoggi’s murder was unintentional and added that the officials were trying to force Khashoggi to return to the kingdom.

Turkish officials said the killings were deliberate and had pressured Saudi Arabia to drag those responsible to the court.

Trump’s government this week imposed sanctions on 17 Saudi officials, regarding allegations about their role in the killings. But a number of US Congress members requested that the White House do more things, including reducing arms sales to Saudi Arabia.

President Donald Trump previously said the government of Saudi Arabia had tried to cover up the murder, saying “the cover-up was one of the worst in history.”

But Trump refused calls to reduce arms sales to Saudi Arabia. Trump is trying to establish closer relations with Saudi Arabia to overcome Iran’s influence in the Middle East and at the same time increase arms sales agreements between America and Saudi Arabia.
